Carin Lichtenstein

B.A. (Hons.) Speech and Hearing (Wits)

Carrie is a Speech Therapist with over two decades of experience, including internationally.

She works closely with parents to facilitate the development of their children's communication, speech and language skills. This often increases the effectiveness of therapy, and can reduce the amount of therapy required.

She works with school-age children to develop literacy and numeracy, as well as with children who are non-speaking/minimally-speaking and unreliably speaking.

She is easily able to establish rapport with her young clients, creating highly enjoyable communicative interactions which form the basis of successful therapy.

Carin is committed to ongoing learning, and attends courses, talks and conferences to stay up to date with developments in the field.

She has a special interest in Autism and in nonspeaking, minimally-speaking and unreliably-speaking clients.

How the Speech Therapy Process Works

1. Once you've made contact with Carin, you'll receive a copy of her contract.

2. Contact your medical aid to find out what funds you have available for Speech Therapy.

3. For Young Children:

Arrange a time for Carin to meet you and your child. During this initial meeting, which typically takes an hour and a half, Carin will listen to your child's speech and their language, watch the way they interact with you and with others in their environment, and ask you questions about their development. At the end of the meeting, she'll make recommendations.

For Older Children:

Please let your child's school know that you'd like Carin to assess him/her at school. Find out which days and times would suit the school. Once Carin has met with and worked with your child, she'll meet with you to find out more about their development, and to share her recommendations with you.

4. If Speech Therapy is recommended, and you select Carin as your service provider, a time and place will be arranged for weekly sessions.

5. You'll receive feedback on a weekly basis or at the end of the month, according to your preference.

6. You'll be invoiced around the 25th of each month.

7. You'll be invited to watch therapy sessions so that you can implement the techniques Carin uses when you interact with your child.
